Tokyo Ghoul’s style and soundtrack is reminiscent of my time as a kid growing into a teenager, when I was into post-hardcore rock in the early to mid 2000s. It was hitting mainstream success with bands like Devil Wears Prada, Enter Shikari, Fall of Troy, Dance Gavin Dance, SAOSIN, etc.. The reason Tokyo Ghoul mixed with SAOSIN is because the main character’s kakuja (a ghoul’s predatory organ) resembles a centipede. So I wrapped one around the iconic beetle of SAOSIN’s self-titled album, sometimes referred to as the "Beetle Album". And more importantly, the emo feelings they both induce. Paired with Revenge Storms as a play on VANS Warped Tour, a festival dedicated to post-hardcore music. Credit screen artwork by Nishihara Isao.
